Saturday Auctions

Saturday Fur and Feather, Sundries and Timber auctions are held whenever there is a Horse Sale, normally on the first and third Saturday of each month.

See the home page for full details of Horse Sale dates.

This auction covers the full range of Tuesday Auctions but on a smaller scale, catering mainly for buyers and sellers who are unable to attend the market on Tuesdays. Although the market is smaller on Saturdays, the quality of the items on sale is comparable to Tuesday's sales and the prices are often better!

Items for this auction can be entered for sale from 7.30am until 9.30am on the day of sale.

The auction begins at 10am with Livestock followed by Timber and Sundries.

Sundries (only) can be accepted into the Sale Room on the Friday before the auction if notice is given before midday on the Wednesday of that week (call 01664 564552).

Rare Breeds Sales

These are held twice a year in Spring and Autumn.

All entries are examined and graded by breed specialists prior to the auction to maintain the highest quality of stock offered for sale.

These events are catalogue sales and entries must be submitted on the official entry form before the closing date, usually four weeks prior to the sale.

Entry forms for these sales are available approximately 10 weeks prior to the sale.

Christmas Poultry Sales

In 2009 these will be held on Tuesdays 8th 15th & 22nd December and on Friday 18th December.

Vendors are advised that based on previous years sales we anticipate greater demand for Oven Ready Birds than for Long Legged at the sale on the 22nd December.

All dead-stock, whether Long Legged or Oven Ready, must be pre-booked as each auction will be subject to a maximum number of entries.

Due to changes in the legislation governing the slaughter of poultry, we are no longer able to offer slaughtering facilities at the market. As a result, we anticipate very little demand for live Christmas Poultry. Any live birds entered on the above dates will therefore be sold during the course of the normal poultry auction.

Birds will be sold in the order in which bookings are received.

Each bird must be clearly labelled with the vendor's name and the weight of the bird in kilogrammes. The label may also have the weight in pounds and ounces at the vendor's discretion to assist customers unfamiliar with metric weights & measures.

Dead birds must be presented in a clear polythene bag which must not be sealed.

The stated weight of all dead stock will be liable to verification by Trading Standards Officers prior to sale.
